How to Build a Personal Brand That Actually Connects in the Age of AI

I'm posting consistently, my feed looks good, but nothing is connecting. I'm doing everything they told me to do and it still feels flat.

Let me tell you something nobody in the personal branding space wants to say out loud. You can have the perfect color palette. The cohesive feed. The Canva templates on point. The consistent posting schedule. And still have nobody connecting with you. Because none of that is your brand. You are your brand.


The Aesthetic Is Not the Answer

I spent time trying to get my Instagram right. Switching colors. Switching directions. Trying to figure out how polished I needed to look, how personal I should get, what version of me would make people pay attention. I never stopped to just be me. And that was the problem. I thought I needed all the bells and whistles to get people to know me. But people still did not know me. Because I was so busy building the look that I forgot to show up in it. The moment I stopped trying to be pitch perfect and started teaching what I actually know, talking how I actually talk, being messy and real and in progress that is when something started to shift. Not because messy is the goal. Because real is the goal. And real happened to look a little messy while I was figuring it out. Your audience does not need your brand to be perfect. They need to feel you in it.


People Buy From People. That Is Not a Slogan. That Is the Whole Strategy.

When I say people buy from people I am talking about emotion. Connection. That moment when someone reads something you wrote or watches something you made and thinks she gets it. She is talking to me. That is what moves people. Not your font choice. Not your brand colors. The feeling that someone on the other side of the screen actually understands what they are going through and has something real to say about it. People want to feel seen. They want to feel understood. They want to believe that what you have could actually help them. And you cannot manufacture that. You cannot ChatGPT your way into that kind of connection. It has to come from you. Your words. Your experience. Your actual point of view. The gurus will give you a 10-step framework for building your personal brand. And some of it is useful. But if you follow the framework without ever finding your own voice inside of it you are just going to sound like everyone else who followed the same framework. Get clear on who you are. Who you are talking to. What you actually want to say. Then go say it in your voice. With your energy. From your experience. That is the brand.


AI Is Not the Enemy. AI Slop Is.

Here is the thing about AI. We are in the early stages of something that is not going anywhere. And the people who learn it now while it is still developing, while so much of it is still free, while most people are still scared of it or dismissing it those are the people who are going to win. I use AI. It helps me organize my thoughts, break down what I want to learn, keep my business on track. As someone with ADHD it has been a game changer for how I process and execute. But there is a difference between using AI as a tool and letting AI replace your voice. We are already drowning in content that sounds like nobody wrote it. Robotic. Generic. Perfectly structured with nothing real inside it. And people are tired. We are still early in this AI era and people are already tired of the slop. Use AI to help you. Use it to organize. To research. To outline. To edit. But when it is time to talk to your people that has to be you. Your words. Your personality. Your truth. Because that is the one thing AI cannot replicate. You.

Your personal brand is not built in Canva. It is built every time you show up as yourself and say something real to someone who needed to hear it. The world is full of perfect looking content that says nothing. Be the one who says something.
